Formulation Chemist, Thermosetting Resins

Principal Responsibilities

Cambium is seeking a Formulation Chemist to join our materials R&D team. You’ll work closely with our team to design and evaluate thermosetting resin formulations. This will be a hands-on role and you will be involved in every step of the process. As Cambium experiences rapid growth, the responsibilities of this role are expected to evolve.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and evaluate thermosetting resin formulations for various high-temperature commercial and military applications.
  • Plan experiments, including DoEs, to evaluate new additives and develop new formulations.
  • Work with technicians and fellow engineers to execute experiments efficiently. This is a hands-on role and you will be expected to spend considerable time in the laboratory.
  • Analyze data and document conclusions in reports and presentations.
  • Provide guidance based on your chemistry expertise to support the operation of larger chemical reactors.
  • Provide regular progress reports to senior engineers and leadership.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely key concepts, development status, performance outcomes, and lessons learned to your coworkers, investors, and collaborators.
  • Prioritize safety and OSHA, EPA, and local health and safety requirements.
  • Create and contribute to the product demonstration and engineering teams in a manner consistent with Cambium’s mission and values and the growth of Cambium’s business.

Key Requirements

  • B.S. / M.S. in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field
  • 3+ years industry experience developing resin or polymer formulations in an R&D setting
  • Good fundamental understanding of thermosets and polymers, with hands-on experience
  • Experience with characterization tools including DSC, TGA, rheometer, DMA, microscopy
  • Experience with thermosetting resins for fiber-reinforced composites is a plus
  • Experience developing products for the aerospace industry is a plus
  • You must have a strong desire to learn and be willing to work in a hands-on role
  • Due to the nature of the work, you must have US citizenship
  • Ability to complete tasks on time with little supervision
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Pay: $100,000-$160,000/salary
